# Split

**What it is:** A function that converts $1.00 of collateral (USDC) into a matched pair of outcome shares (1 YES + 1 NO).

**How it works:**

* Found under **Pro Orders**.
* Enter the amount of collateral to split.
* You receive an equal number of YES and NO shares (1 of each for every $1.00 split), minus any protocol fees.

**When to use:**

* When you want to **provide liquidity** or **trade both sides** of a market.
* Useful when one side is overpriced — you can split, then sell the expensive side, effectively shorting it.

**Example:**\
You split **$100 USDC** into **100 YES + 100 NO**.\
The market is trading **YES at 65¢** and **NO at 35¢**.\
You sell your YES shares for 65¢ each, receiving **$65 USDC**, while still holding **100 NO** at a net cost basis of **35¢** (since you started with $100).

**Why you need it:**\
Splitting gives you direct access to **both sides of the market**.\
It’s the foundation for **market making**, **arbitrage**, and **shorting mispriced outcomes**, especially when one side gets crowded or sentiment swings too hard.
